Finally fixing my junk after breaking it on Mossy. Since the tranny and t-case were in need of replacing I decided that this would be a good opportunity to replace the tired old engine as well.

Here is the progress from today.

I still need to source another A4LD or C5 but I already have a replacement 2.9L V6. I was thinking of swapping to a 302/c6/203/205 but that is going on the back burner. Wife isn't happy that I am spending any money at all on the truck but what can you expect from an 8 month pregnant first time mother.

Once I get a tranny I am fixin to host a wrenchathon if anyone would be willing to come over and help get the drivetrain back in. I have some miscellaneous other projects that need done as well like replace the gas tank, change out the rear carrier, and swap some leaf springs around.

Looks to me like there is plenty of room there for a sb chevy.. HaHaHeHe. I'm sorry I couldn't resist. Might even come give you a hand whenever you get parts if schedule permits.Remember mine did start life out as a bronco 2, not much left of it now though!!

Coy, if I had $600 to spend on upgrades why would I buy that and have it shipped down here when I could just get a V8 combo and be done with it?

Sam, I am sure I could do a lot better going with a Chevy V8, tranny, and t-case at least cost wise but I am a bit of a Ford purist. I hate the Chevy I drive now as it is.

I was referring to the C4 for $250 with the correct bellhousing for u'r 2.9. I can keep anything I find to myself from now on.

I like the sound of the Ford 302,  you cannot make a Chevy sound as good as a Ford, but what do I know My truck has a 22re. I cannot stand the sounds it it makes.

I appreciate the info on that C4 lead Coy, just not what I'm looking for.  Here's the reasoning.  I can't run my 1350/1354 cases behind a c4 without spending $500 for an adapter and shaft and it seems silly to sink that much more into those weak cases.  Plus there is no easy way to retain that C4 and run a 203/205 setup behind it down the road.  I think the C6 is a better option long term, the C5 would be a good second choice since it will bolt right up to the 1350/1354.  I would run the C4 but then I'm pretty much limited to a Bronco D20 and I don't know of any doubler kits for those so I would have to spend another $1,000 to regear my axles since they've only got 4.10s in them now.

does you tranny have a dedicated cooler?  if it don't i would suggest one with its own fan,  with 410s and 39s thats a lot of strain on any tranny. especially a used one.  just a thought

Dabbs, the tranny does have its own cooler but no separate fan on it.  I only have that wimpy little 2.9L in front of it and I don't spend much time in normal 4 lo when I am actually crawling.  Mainly just use regular 4 lo for trail riding and when I need some more wheel speed.  I know the 4.10s are less than ideal but don't have the money to upgrade to 5.13s anytime soon.  I've been saying I need a roll cage too for about a year now.

You can use the C5 parts in a c4  and use the 1350 cases but the trouble is finding the bell housing, intermediate housing and tail shaft. I may know where a bell to fit the 2.9 and can check on other. I wasn't thinking about the dana 20 on the back.
