HE said this engine came out of a 1500 truck so it should be a 4 bolt main right?

post up your engine casting number and Ill tell ya what it is. It dont matter anyway , you aint gonna turn enough R's to need a 4BM anyway......

I'll get them tonight when I get home. Im geusing there in the back of the engine by where it has the 5.7 right ?

Casted into the flywheel houseing behind one of the heads,I forget what side.
Personally Id rather have a 2BM cause the caps got more meat on em w/o the extra bolt holes

i was gunna say that, but you covered it: 2blt vs 4blt    either is fine

the number is on the back of the block on the drivers side right below the head.    (yes, close to the 5.7 stamp)

Like I said earlier, you aint gonna turn enough R's for it to matter . 4BM being better is a matter of opinion. People that tell you a 4BM is better are the kind of people who stick tunnel rams with 2 4's on stock motors

alot of SBC truck engines from the late 80's and up are drilled for both 2BM and 4BM.

I retract the earlier statement . 4BM's are better if you are gonna buy beefy azz aftermarket main caps and have it line bored. But you dont need to do all that for what you are gonna use it for. You aint gonna bust a main cap turnin it 6 G's

Ok I found them and the numbers you gave are right. But what do you mean when u said 2 or 4. And right after the 5.7 it has LG. what does that stand for

It means the block is drilled for 4 bolt mains , but could have 2 bolt main caps on it. The only way to tell is to pull the pan. You have a 4 bolt main block , but you may have 2 bolt caps on it.
I gots no idea what lg means.......

There should be a little round date clock on it somewhere around where the casting number was. Why do you need to know the date?
